Tuesday 5th November 2024, bonfire night, we chose the topic of Safety Habits
Physical Safety refers to the things we do to keep ourselves physically safe from harm. This can include, but is not limited to:
Adhering to Health & Safety protocols
Avoiding hazards
Wearing protective clothing, boots etc
Taking breaks
Mental Safety refers to what we do to keep ourselves psychologically and emotionally safe. This can include, but is not limited to:
Telling someone if you are worried, fearful or depressed
Avoiding stressful or anxiety provoking situations whenever possible
Taking any prescribed medications
Getting plenty of rest and sleep
Social safety refers to what we do to keep ourselves safe socially.
This includes, but is not limited to:
Whether in-person or online, engage socially only with people whom you trust
If you are meeting someone, do so in a public place, where you can be seen
Also, if you are meeting someone, tell a friend whom you are meeting and where
For extra safety, carry a mobile phone with the location features turned on
Preparing in advance for any event is essential for your safety. By knowing in advance what needs to be done to keep you safe, you can think about any risks and how to counter them. Don't be afraid to ask for advice if you are unsure
Keeping your focus is essential for your safety. It is when we lose our focus or concentration that accidents happen. If you're walking, look where you're going, and if you're sitting down, make sure the chair is stable. That kind of thing!
Having an Emergency Plan isn't just for big events, it's an everyday thing. For example, your family should have a plan as to where to check in with each other if there's an earthquake. When I'm running a workshop I have an emergency plan
