What's in a label? #label
Labels have incredible power over how we are perceived, and more importantly, how we perceive ourselves
When growing up in 1960's UK, a lot of labels were used to define me. But back then I was too young and naive to know that. Labels such as "fat", "lazy", "slow" were all part of my early childhood experiences, which I put under a larger label of "bullying"
I wasn't alone in being bullied, and I wasn't alone in wanting things to change. Fortunately I now line in New Zealand in 2024, and have a greater knowledge of labels and their power to arm or disarm
Many of my friends now insist on gender labels, using pronouns such as "she/her", "he/him", or simply "they". Others use professional titles for their labels, such as "Doctor", or "Teacher" Using the wrong label when describing or referring to someone has now become rude and socially unnacceptable. People are embracing labels to use their power, which is great!
My personal labels include "Husband", "Father", "Hypnotherapist", "Coach", "Tai Chi Instructor" and "Toastmaster"
What labels do you want to embrace, and which ones do you want to let go of?
I can help you with that
